The Writing Lives Story Project

I graduated from the NEOMFA program in August 2007. I was extremely excited, not to mention very lucky, to have my chapbook chosen by Kent State University Press. Of course, I had the benefit of working with Maggie Anderson, both in poetry workshops, and as a member of my thesis committee. Her dedication and work with The Wick Poetry Center and her students is nothing short of super-human. For a long time, I had difficulty recogizing the power of my own voice. What did a kid from Lancaster, PA have to offer to the world of poetry? I will always be grateful to her and to Wick Poetry Center for believing in me and my potential as a writer. When I teach my own students, I strive to give them the same level of feedback and support as Maggie did with my work. I know that if I can do this, I can be a successful instructor.
I currently teach at Youngstown State University and am embarking on the process of sending out full-length manuscripts.
Here's to another 25 years of new (and exciting) voices with Wick!
