I came to Kent State on an Honors Wick Poetry Scholarship. I remember being too shy as a freshman to go out to dinner after that first reading, but gradually through classes with Alice and Maj, and then interning at Wick my senior year and working with Maggie on my Honors thesis, I came to trust my own voice and to find it in a community with others.
After graduating I went on to earn my MFA from the New School and teach creative writing at GW before moving back to New York to live the writer's life. No matter where I am or what I'm doing, I look at Wick as my roots, grounding me in what it means to be a poet and what it means to be a human being.
